Samsung Bixby Routines

Today’s blog isn’t your usual blog about VMware or VMware products, it’s my first blog about a Samsung feature.

In the last part of 2021 I started to watch Modern Family and I must say I really enjoyed the show. It was low key to step in and enjoy the often simple humor. While I was enjoying the show, Netflix had to cancel the show starting 2022. Disney+ however added Modern Family to their portfolio. The only problem is that the Disney+ app is missing some features compared to the Netflix app.

I normally keep the brightness level of my phone around 10/15%. I find that comfortable on the eyes. But when it comes to watching a show or a movie, Netflix is set to up the brightness level to the max. But the Disney+ app doesn’t have this feature, IMHO a huge defect. But if you happen to have a Samsung phone, then I might have a solution for you.

If your Samsung phone has Bixby Routines you can overcome the defect of the Disney+ app. Bixby Routines is like an if-then statement. If I open the Disney+ app, then set the brightness to 100%. Easy isn’t it? And the best part is Bixby Routines roles back any changes it made when the if-then statement doesn’t apply anymore.

How to set it up?

This is copied from samsung :

  • Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap Bixby Routines.
  • Or, you can open the Quick settings panels by swiping down from the top of the screen using two fingers. Swipe left, and then touch and hold Bixby Routines.
  • To make accessing Bixby Routines easier, you can add an icon to your phone’s App screen. While in Bixby Routines, tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Settings.
  • Tap the switch next to “Show Bixby Routines on Apps screen.”

Here is how it should look like:

Needless to say you can use this for far more apps then just the Disney+ app.
